Dear Prayer partner,

There have been a lot of changes in our family life during the past couple of months. As we face the changing world daily, we can depend on our unchanging Lord, who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow -- an unshaken rock to stand on that we can trust.

Paul’s new ministry:

After teaching a short mission course in Islam last October, Paul was invited by Taiwan Baptist Theological Seminary to be a full-time professor in Missiology July 2004. We always feel our ministry should be back in Asia. There is a burden in our heart to train ministers and missionaries. We are old soldiers having been trained in the mission field. Now is the right time to return to our home country to train the new soldiers. In a seminary, most of them will be future ministers in churches. If they have been trained and got a “Kingdom Mind” in their heart, they will guide and teach their congregation to be more concerned with missions, both local and overseas. Paul has gone to Taiwan in June and started to work in Seminary ever day since July. Over there, he attended a Cross-culture Youth Mission in Taipei and got some young Christians who have dedicated to be cross-cultural missionaries and ready to be trained in the seminary. This semester he has 27 students in his mission class. Please pray for them. Paul also serves as dormitory guardian for the male students besides his teaching ministry. Paul feels a burden to care for their spiritual growth. He will give the students personal caring which require time and patience, and Paul looks on it as very important and worthwhile. After twenty-five years away from his home country, Paul is adjusting and feeling more settled in Taipei.

Daniel’s Summer Job and Activities:

With a lot of people being laid off in Toronto and the economic situation weak, summer job-hunting is more difficult than in the previous year. However, the Lord opened a door for Daniel through a lady in my bible-study. He started working full-time as a computer designer in a restaurant equipment company. The office is within walking distance from our home, which saves gas/bus fare.  He enjoys the job and the walking very much. Daniel had a chance to go with his friends for a couple of days to see the car race in Montreal in May. It is the first time he traveled outside Toronto. Daniel also repairs computers and cell phones for his friends. Our home is always open for his friends. We thank God that he now has several Christian young men as friends.

Grace’s new ministry:

After two years in Prison Ministry under C.A.R.E. as a volunteer, the Lord has put the passion for prisoners in Grace’s heart. Daniel has two more years in his university studies, and as a mom, I do not think I could leave him alone here in a foreign land. After prayer and discussion with Paul and SIM, Grace made the decision to stay here two more years. She decided to join C.A.R.E., a gospel organization started over ten years ago, but with no office or a full time minister.   By faith Grace has to raise support for the expenses of C.A.R.E. extended ministry such as the rental of an office and allowance for Grace and other needs.  The Lord answered our prayers and has provided a suitable office room located in the central area. The location is easy for ex-offenders to come by bus for counseling and bible study. The Lord also provided all the furniture for the office plus a volunteer who will come in once a week to assist in administration work.

Grace has started working full-time since July. As a ministry director in C.A.R.E., Grace’s work consist mainly of visiting prisoners in jail for small group bible-study, chapel service and library service. In addition, when prisoners have served their time and are discharged, she has to follow-up the ex-offenders and their families especially in their spiritual growth by personal bible-study and counseling. There is a group of volunteers, about 15 who are working alongside with Grace for visiting and follow-up caring. She often shares prison ministry at church meetings. At Sunday school she encourages and recruits volunteers to join in this ministry and as prayer supporters.

Praise and Prayer Items:

1.      Praise the Lord for our new challenges in ministry: Paul is in Taiwan for Mission course teaching and Grace is in C.A.R.E. Prison Ministry.

2.      Praise the Lord for Daniel’s summer job. May the Lord give him an opportunity to grow physically and spiritually. And also pray for his new school term which will start in September.

3.      Pray for Paul’s elderly father’s health. Paul is able to spend quality time with his father, since it takes only one and half hour of transport to pay a visit.

4.      Pray for Grace’s mother in Hong Kong. May the Lord keep her in good health and that she may win souls for His Kingdom in the old age home.

5.      Pray for Paul’s new teaching ministry, that he may spend time with students as their mentor and guide them spiritually. May the Lord give him wisdom in preparing daily lectures on the subjects he teaches.

6.      Pray for Grace and provide her with energy for visiting prisons and leading bible studies. May the Lord strengthen her spiritually. In the confinement of prison, she has to fight with Satan to gain people from darkness into the Lord’s Kingdom.

7.      Pray for Grace’s daily traveling. She has to drive daily on the road alone. May the Lord give her confidence and safe driving on the highways.

Summer is short in this northern country ; when Autumn is at the door step,  Winter will not be too far away.

May the Lord’s grace and peace be with you in these hot summer months.

Yours in His Service,

Paul, Grace and Daniel Chiang.
