Dear Prayer Partners,
Summer holidays have begun. It
is time for students to have different kind of activities and for parents to
take a family vacation traveling, camping or fishing. This has been a very wet summer producing good crops and
harvests, but the increasing gas price made everything expensive – causing a
downturn in economy affecting garages, airlines and other businesses.
Many people are losing their jobs and face challenges to live with
limited resources.
Time
flies, six years have gone by since we took special leave from SIM for
Daniel’s university education in Canada.
God has provided abundantly for Daniel.
He finished his studies and had started working in the computer field
since May 2007. Paul and Grace
thought it is time to leave SIM. Although
we are committed to a lifelong missions calling and we still have a burden and
passion for missions, we are close to retirement age and it is unlikely we will
go to a mission field again. God’s
way is beyond our comprehension. Through
God’s grace, Paul completed the studies on Missiology. Four years ago, God had led Paul to fulfill his passion to
equip mission minded seminary students in Taiwan Baptist Seminary.
We praise the Lord for raising a new generation of missionaries. What
Paul has always wanted to do and cannot do in Toronto, God has opened the way.
In the meantime, Grace is involved with city missions in Toronto
conducting bible studies and discipleship training in detention centers, prison
and Operation Dawn’s drug addicts rehabilitation center every week. Besides, she is also involved in evangelizing and cultivating
a Mandarin congregation in the church through Sunday school teaching, bible
study and discipleship. SIM
recognized that although Paul and Grace are not physically ministering in
Africa, our vision and passion to serve in missions and equip servants remain
the same. We have only moved from
frontline missions to supporting city missions.
Therefore, Dr. Stanley Lim, SIM East Asia Director, has kindly discussed
with SIM committee and asked us to rejoin SIM as Associate Missionary assisting
the local SIM office mission ministries. We
have submitted all requirements and currently awaiting their official approval.

Daniel’s update and schedule
Praise
the Lord, Daniel is learning a lot of practical computer knowledge and skills in
the company. It is his second year
in the job and there are many things to learn, teamwork, responsibilities and
self-actualization, etc. He is
commended by his boss and gets along well with his colleagues.
Although sometimes he has to work long hours, he is enjoying the work as
well as the friendship very much. We
have watched Daniel grown in maturity, humility and courtesy through his social
life. To all of you, we give our
heartfelt thanks for your faithful prayers.
Daniel has
been saving his vacation days as well as spending money since 2007 for a trip to
visit Taiwan, Hong Kong and Singapore in September 2008.
The main purpose of the trip is to visit his 98 years old grandfather in
Taiwan, his 91 years old grandmother in Hong Kong, and all the brothers and
sisters in the churches who faithful pray and care so much for him.
Singapore was Daniel’s second home because he went to Singapore for 2
years (1991-93) when a war broke out in Liberia, West Africa.
Therefore, Daniel has many fond childhood memories in Singapore. His itinerary is as follows:

Paul’s update and schedule
Since both Daniel and Grace will be in East Asia in September, Paul will
not be coming back to Toronto. He
will go to Seoul, Korea in July and Singapore in August.
We hope to have the opportunity to meet with all of you whom we have
missed for so long and count God’s blessings together.
Taiwan Baptist Seminary had finished their semester at the end of June.
Paul was busy preparing for students graduation as well as new students
examination. After that, he will go
to the World Mission Bible College in Seoul to teach an intensive missions
program. In August, he will visit
SIM’s East Asia office in Singapore and all the brothers and sisters who had
supported us in the past. He will
return to Taiwan in mid August to prepare for the new semester.

Grace’s update and schedule
(a)
tutorial and workshop – Grace has kept up with her learning as she
served in Toronto in the last few years, especially those related to Caring
ministries such as Stephen Ministry, Living Water Counseling Center, Singing
Waters Ministry. All these have
helped her ministry as a caregiver with advanced skills in counseling and
personal evangelism. Learning is
life long and Grace experienced special blessings from God.
Through prayers and family consent, she will study the Marriage and
Family Counseling Therapy Program in Hong Kong at Alliance Bible Seminary.
She has passed the entrance examination and will start the course in
September. She will attend the
course in Hong Kong every six months and plan to finish the whole course in 3
years including internship. SIM has
agreed and asked her to serve in a ministry for new and career missionaries.
(b)
Writings – Grace has already finished writing over ten reference
materials for her Bible Study Groups and Sunday school teachings.
She has recently started writing on Genesis and wants to finish it before
September. Last year, she has
started writing her biography and missions experience.
It is called “Missions Apprentice”, sponsored by Hong Kong
Association of Christian Missions, and now being published in their periodical
magazine “Go unto all Nations”. You
can read the magazine through www.hkacm.org.hk.
Please continue to pray for her wisdom in writing.
(c)
Ministries in Toronto – Give thanks to God for preparing a couple to
lead the Prison ministry and more than 10 volunteers.
Grace has also trained two co-workers in Operation Dawn to lead the
weekly Bible study. When she
pursues her studies in Hong Kong in September, they will take turn to look after
the ministry. The other bible study
classes will be the same, brothers and sisters are used to use Grace’s bible
study material and lead discussions alternatively.
Praise the Lord that co-workers, brothers and sisters will take care of
the ministries during her absence – the new Chinese immigrants evangelism,
visitations, Sunday school, fellowships etc.
(d)
Plan in Hong Kong – Praise the Lord, Grace can spend time with her
family as she attends the courses in Hong Kong.
She has been away from her elderly mother and family members over the
last 30 years. There are also needs
to serve in the churches that had cared so much for her in the past. The last but not the least, Hong Kong is close to Taiwan, and
she will be able to visit Paul during the spring break.

Thanksgiving and prayer items
(a)
Thank God for our elderly parents in Taiwan and Hong Kong.
Please pray for their health, joy and a blessed reunion with Daniel and
us.
(b)
Thank God for Paul to minister in Korea and Singapore.
Please pray for their fellowship in Christ, his teaching and preparation
for the new semester in Taiwan.
(c)
Please pray for Daniel’s trip to Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore to
visit family and friends. He will
return to Toronto alone in October and learn to look after himself. May God give him mercy and protect him.
(d)
Please pray for Grace’s learning in Alliance Bible Seminary in
September. May God protect her
health, help her settle down in Hong Kong and give her wisdom and ability to
study the Marriage and Family Counseling Therapy Program.
Please also pray that God will give her wisdom to write a Servant Leader
Training Module and develop the bible teaching ministries in the church.
Have a
blessed and safe summer,
In
Christ,
Paul,
Grace and Daniel

2008
