One
day I was reading some of my first year field journals. I was very touched by
seeing God¡¦s grace in my life. In Ps 8, who are we, lower than angels, and yet
He puts us in such privilege to serve him; and what have we done, unless He
builds and keeps His work and people, otherwise everything we do are in vain Ps
127.
Remembering
my first year in field, which I¡¦d say the hardest experience in my life. There
are very few missionaries working in Kano. Being a long term missionary means
that you are supposed to survive by yourself, live independently, solve your own
problems, make your own decisions¡KMoreover there are language barrier and
culture shock which make things more difficult. Helplessness and loneliness are
overwhelming. However crying out to Lord, depending on His wisdom, guidance and
experiencing His faithfulness become reality and even solid in mission life.
Here
is some of my ¡¥first life experience¡¦ in Nigeria,
|
¡@
|
The
first time of driving by myself (I got my license in HK but never drive by
myself after). But Kano is a chaotic city where has extremely high rate of
traffic accidents.
|
|
The
first experience of having malaria ¡V falciparum which is the malignant
type that I had delusion, high fever, diarrhea overnight¡K I thought I
was dying¡K
|
|
|
|
The
first experience of having ¡¥house-help¡¦, ¡¥carpenter¡¦,
¡¥tailor¡¦¡KNigeria is a third world undeveloped country that labour
is cheap, and it is culturally acceptable to give local people work as
well as there are not much ¡¥already-made¡¦ products for purchase.
|
|
In
2001, 2004, I experienced first and second riot in my life. Killing is
their solution for conflicts among tribes, religions and politics.
Families as well as the whole society become scattered and destroyed.
|

|

¡@ |
¡@ |
¡@ |
|

|
The
first experience of being called ¡¥mummy¡¦ even by people who are older
than me. In Nigeria, addressing you ¡¥mummy¡¦ or ¡¥daddy¡¦ shows
highly respect ion. And they sometimes greet me with crouching down with
one leg, which is just like our ancient Chinese dynasty.
|
|
The
first experience of taking public transports that are like ¡¥broken metal
pieces¡¦. The door can¡¦t be shut well, windscreen has many cracks,
seeing metal pieces inside (no any leather cover) and of course no seat
belt¡K; but they can move incredibly fast- ¡¥over speed¡¦ ¡V very
dangerous.
|

|
| ¡@ |
¡@ |
¡@ |
As
time pass, many experience become ¡¥not new¡¦ to me and I also get to know the
local language, the culture and make friendships with them¡KNow when I think of
all these experience again, I laugh and also thank God for His protection upon
me and your precious prayers which sustain me up to now!

Bege (House of Hope ministry)
Core
North Stations Visit
The
first week of Sept, we visited our other stations in Kasina, Zamfara, Sokoto and
Kebbi (Other Northern States of Nigeria). They are all trying their best to
expand the ministry. In Kasina they converted some street boys (abandon from the
family) and they plan to do discipleship class for them. There is one old woman
(retired nurse) working in Zamfara and Sokoto States. She does medical outreach
all by herself. We will get her one more staff and encourage her to train others
as well. In Kebbi State, they don¡¦t have our ministry yet but there are many
traditional religious and also street kids. The need there is plenty and they
ask us to help them to expand the ministry there.
|
We
really thank God for this successful long trip. We spent total six days
and had lots of driving on the road. It seems that God is showing me there
are plenty needs and opportunity for me to continue in my next term.
|
|
And
please pray for our next village outreach coming on 6 Oct that will be another
successful trip.
|
HIV/AIDS
Ministry
We
thank God for your prayer for this ministry. I experienced different
obstacles along the process. Finally this ministry is now started. We give
free test and counseling for whoever wants to know their HIV status.
Through this ministry, people get to know what HIV/AIDS is, the
prevention, and commit themselves back to God.
For
the M people, we also use this opportunity to share the gospel!

Chinese
Ministry ~
I
mentioned and asked you to pray for one HK lady who had gastric ulcer and GI
bleeding (stomach problem) in my previous newsletter. Thank God that she
received an operation in HK and she has come back to continue her business.
Last
week another woman was suspected to have TIA (Transient Ischemic Attack). And I
was able to help her to see doctor and give her some advice.
From
times to times I meet up with some of them to have gathering and along our
chatting I share about my faith as well as my ministries.
